Caring for denim with The Laundress

It’s almost denim weather – and let’s be honest, jeans are a wardrobe investment – so The Butler has a few tips on looking after your favourite pair of jeans to keep them looking sharp year after year.

Launder: Clean, soften, and preserve colour with the Denim Wash. This specially formulated detergent will leave your blue denim with that perfect worn-in feeling

Whites: For white denim that’s clean and bright, add 1 capful of All-Purpose Bleach Alternative to load with Denim Wash and launder in hot water.

Dye: Dye transfer and bleeding can be a “dark” reality of raw denim; ALWAYS launder these items separately and you’ll avoid blues. To help set dye, presoak dark and raw denim in a cool water bath with Scented Vinegar.

Stains: Remove old and new stains with Stain Solution – a pretreat solution! Before laundering, apply directly to stained areas.

Protect: Distressed details can be laundered in the machine: simply turn the item inside out and place in a Mesh Washing Bag to protect it in the cycle.

Dry: Avoid the dryer if you can! We always recommend line-drying denim to prevent fading, shrinking, and extra wear and tear.

Alterations: For perfect results in fit and length, always launder denim prior to making any alterations. Use hot water and a hot dryer cycle to ensure there will be no further shrinkage.

Freshen: It’s not necessary to launder denim after every wear. Use a Fabric Fresh Classic between wearing to keep denim smelling clean and fresh.
